We invite you to “Preach to the Choir” of International LGBTQ+ Psychology & Social Sciences researchers. What do you want to share with others studying LGBTQ+ experiences from a social science perspective? What methods, theories, research questions, samples, and findings are important for moving the field forward and ensuring that our research collectively remains on the cutting edge?

Important Dates:

  • June 21 & 22, 2023 - The Conference!

  • August 31, 2023 - Deadline to submit a letter of intent to submit a manuscript to one of our TWO special issues (one in Psychology & Sexuality and one in the Journal of Femininities).

  • December 1, 2023 - Deadline to submit full copy of manuscript to one of the special issues

    • Note: extensions are available to those proposing a paper based upon a new collaboration formed at Preach 2023!

Join us in the beautiful city of Toronto for a 2-day LGBTQ+ Psychology & Related Social Sciences conference to be held during Toronto Pride and in advance of the Canadian Psychological Association's Annual Convention.

Preaching to the Choir, affectionately referred to as "Preach," began in 2018 by hosting a 2-day event in Montreal, Canada. In 2018, we were joined by more than 115 delegates from 23 different countries who shared the latest in LGBTQ research within an intimate and collegial environment. We were supposed to meet again in 2020 in Prague but ended up hosting an online event due to the pandemic.

We are excited to once again offer an in-person event!

Why is the conference called “Preaching to the Choir”?

Preaching to the Choir is about sharing your latest LGBTQ+ research with others in the field. You get to skip over the introduction of what "LGBTQ+" means or why it matters and jump right into your latest and greatest findings. In other words, we invite you to come "Preach to the Choir" of interested, knowledgeable, and like-minded scholars at the forefront of LGBTQ+ social and psychological science.

At the same time, by partnering with a larger Psychology conference, Preach also offers its attendees the opportunity to present their work to a more generalist audience, thereby ensuring the dissemination of LGBTQ+ research across all branches of psychology, including directly to clinicians and service providers.

Special Cluster: Critical Femininities

New this year, we will offer a themed cluster during the conference focusing on the intersecting topics of femininities, femmephobia, femme theory, and critical femininities scholarship. During the abstract submission process, we will ask if your work is relevant to this stream, and if so, we will cluster your presentation with others on related topics. We will also invite you to participate in Femininities networking events.

Poster Presentation Instructions

You may present a traditional poster within a 4x3 foot space, but we encourage you to think ‘outside the box’ to use this space. In addition to the posterboards at the conference, you will have access to the conference Slack Workspace where you can upload a digital copy of your poster presentation. This could include the file for your poster (PDF, image, etc.), or any other digital product, such as a video presentation, audio presentation, infographic, animation, PDF, images, etc. At the conference, your poster will also have a QR code next to it that will direct viewers to the appropriate place in Slack to find any additional files you have included as part of your presentation. Your poster presentation should be a “stand-alone” presentation that contains enough information for a viewer to understand your message, even if you are not there next to the poster to walk the viewer through your presentation. Conference delegates can leave questions and comments for you about your presentation on Slack.
